Adult and Family Education

The Travellers Education Service works primarily with Traveller's Children from 0 - 19. However, we have developed strong partnerships with other agencies to help adults to gain further education and training.

Family Learning

Family Learning Group meets every Tuesday morning at Cottingley Childrens’ Centre to provide social and learning opportunities for Traveller women and pre-school children. During term-time we hold sessions on cooking, crafts, well-being and relaxation.

During the school holidays, and occasionally during term-time, we have trips out which include older children. This last year we have had funding which has enabled us to visit several local museums, the seaside and Appleby horse fair. The group offers a chance for Traveller women to get together and take “time out” from their usual routine.

Travellers Progress Group

Donna working and learningThis group is for Traveller women who want to improve their reading, writing and computer skills. We meet every Monday afternoon at Cottingley Community Centre where the classes are tailored to individual needs from beginners to those ready to move on to college classes or employment.

Both groups are able to offer help with transport and child care. If you are interested in joining us, or want to talk about other activities and learning opportunities ring Anne Warrington at Learning in the Community Project
